The National Sesame Seed Association was set up in 2002 to fill the gap created as a result of the scrapping of the marketing board. It therefore primarily seeks to promote the development of sesame seed industry in Nigeria.
Globally, the Sesame seed industry is attracting new interest due to the increasing use to which the seed is now being put and the health benefit of sesame seed oil. These uses include confectionery, cosmetics, edible oil, pharmaceuticals etc.
Nigeria’s sesame seed ranks among the best quality in the world. In the last couple of years, demand for Nigeria’s sesame seed has witnessed a dramatic growth, which has forced the association to explore ways to boost production from the present figure of about 150,000 metric tons to 500,000 metric tons within an intermediate time frame of 5 years.
To achieve this projection, the association, through strategic partnerships with local and international development partners, government agencies, financial institutions and investors as well as private consultants, is working with farmer groups across Nigeria to support activities that will dramatically boost the farming, processing and export of sesame seed for increased food security and poverty alleviation.
The National Sesame Seed Association also welcomes cooperative partnerships from all well meaning stakeholders, who may wish to buy into this project of repositioning our national economy through strengthened Agri-business initiatives, to please join hands with the association in achieving this laudable production goal. We particularly welcome partnership proposals from the following groups: cooperative groups and investors desirous of exploring the great opportunities in sesame seed farming, processing and marketing; Elected representatives willing to empower their farming constituencies as part of their constituency outreach projects as well as Ministries, Departments and Agencies seeking poverty alleviation projects for their target constituencies.
This Practical Guide to Sesame Seed Farming, Processing and Marketing for Sustained Profitability provides time-tested agronomical practices, investments matrices and marketing strategies to guide anyone willing to take advantage of the opportunities in the Sesame Seed industry. We therefore encourage you to take a practical step today and contact NSSAN key officials today.
